How do I cancel or reschedule a lesson?
Go to My lessons, find the booking, and tap Reschedule (or Cancel). Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the lesson. Same-day cancellations are charged 50% to cover your instructor's lost slot.
When do I get charged?
Your card is authorised when you book but only charged once the lesson is completed. For 5- and 10-lesson packs you're charged upfront, and unused lessons can be refunded any time.
Are all instructors verified?
Yes. Every instructor on Tiro passes a six-step background process before they take a single booking: ID, SAPS criminal check, valid licence + PrDP, K53 instructor accreditation, roadworthy vehicle, and annual re-verification. See safety & vetting for the full breakdown.
What if my instructor is late or doesn't arrive?
You won't be charged. The Tiro app tracks the pickup time. If your instructor is more than 15 minutes late we automatically credit your account and our team follows up directly.
Can I switch instructors?
Of course. There's no contract. Just find another instructor and book your next lesson with them. Your progress in the app comes with you.
How does the K53 quiz work?
The questions are modelled on the official DLTC paper. Practice quizzes are 10 questions and never repeat the same one twice in a row. Mock tests are 68 questions, timed, and follow the official structure exactly. Free with every booking.
Is my data safe?
Yes. Tiro is POPIA compliant. Your ID document is encrypted, never shared with instructors, and deleted within 7 days of account closure.
